Below Starved Rock

$200.00

11x14

Oil on mounted gessoboard

Painted April 2024

This was painted after a trip to Starved Rock, Illinois, which is a state park along the Illinois river, and home to a large bluff overlooking the river. The bluff was used as both a fort and refuge first by the French then by the Illini tribe in the 17th and 18th centuries. This scene is below the bluff looking out on the Illinois river. I just liked how crowded this tiny little bluff was and how the trees were almost fighting to look out over the edge.
