Apple River Fort

$200.00

11x14

Oil on mounted gessoboard

Painted April 2024

Apple River Fort is located not far from Galena, Illinois, and dates back to the early 1830’s when Illinois settlers were moving into the area. The fort was built as a defense against Chief Blackhawk’s warriors during the Blackhawk War of 1832, and sits atop a forested hill with a great view of the surrounding landscape. Here I thought I would just pay homage to the old fort. Something you don’t often stumble on in Illinois.
